Every once in a while, I actually take suggestions of new music from friends. A rare occasion when these same friends come through and send me a decent link. However, that is exactly what has happened here for my latest review. While checking my email I got turned on to a band that is more progressive than I’ve heard in a long time. Most days progressive stands for slow, trippy bands with no ability to write choruses. My first listen to Face Time Police proved this to be wrong.
What immediately caught me in my first listen was an upbeat tempo that was used to mix many different styles. Everything from pop to industrial metal was incorporated and transitioned seamlessly. Of course, my favorites would have to be “None of the Below” and also “Of Man and Monster.” Both tunes have a hard rock approach and the latter could easily be a theme song, being both catchy and having a modern feel. The most compelling feature of this new disc, however, is not the musical diversity, but rather the amazing production. I’m not sure I’ve heard better production on any disc this year!
A band with this type of product should be heard on the airwaves and it is only a matter of time before they are.
