RATING: 9 / 10

Formed in 2002 by Linus Wikström (guitars), Daniel Hannedahl (drums) and Tobias Birgersson (guitars) in the west coast of Sweden, Frequency moved their first steps in the music scene in the death metal band Lothlorien and in the power metal band Melodrama. Frequency have already released an album back in 2006 titled "When Dream And Fate Collide", which was ok but here it is 2008 and they are back with the amazing follow up disc titled "Compassion Denied" featuring new vocalist Rick Altzi (Atvance, Sandalinas). This album is absolutely crushing! From start to finish we are treated with a melodic metal onslaught of smoking riffs, and melodies! I'd say the new release is Melodic Traditional/Power Metal but without all the cheese that usually ensues with those types of "labeled" releases. Ricks vocals are perfect for the music which was created on this album. Very melodic and at times even raspy, but always keeping a melodic tone, and luring the listener in for captivating melody passages! The songs all flow from one to another and never leave the listener bored or wanting to skip over the next track. We are treated to 9 songs (10 if you snag the Japan edition), and I can't even name a favorite track as everyone offers something different that makes me like them equally. A very nice variety of songs here......uptempo, midtempo, and even something slower but ballsy and heavy (Your Pain Is My Guide)! Badass! Production is very tight, and crisp! Nothing left out!

Bottom line is make sure you check out Frequency's album "Compassion Denied". Its absolutely a brilliant melodic metal release with great musicianship, and vocals. Rick Altzi has never sounded better! Although he was good in Atvance he really shows his talent on this album! A must for all melodic metal fans!
