Kidd Havok is a group from Florida formed in the late 80s. They have opened for many of the best in their genre, and currently are preparing for their chance to take the stage with even more. As of late there have been quite a few bands that have reformed due to resurgence in the hard rock scene. This is another example of a fine band’s demo seeing the light of day. I had to take a few looks back just to make sure this was a demo, as the production rivals many albums released during that time. Their first disc, Roll the Dice is a hard rock/hair fans delight.
This disc is filled with infectious choruses, up beat songs, and of course a bit of blues in there as well. My favorite tracks include “1 Push,” “Candy Store,” and “Cold Sweat” as all feature the style I love so much. Johnny B’s vocals have a certain grit to push the songs and a soulful side to compliment the slower arrangements. The guitarist (Scot Marcs) lays down solos that fit the bands music style perfectly. The CD ends with a live guitar solo/jam that shows off a different side of the band, yet still makes and adequate conclusion. All fans rejoice for the second coming of a great rock band.
