I first heard of Myrath once again through TheMetalMadman himself. My first listen to these guys made my jaw drop in disbelief of what I heard. I many times have been quoted that Symphony X had made the album of their lives with Paradise Lost, yet what I was hearing took Symphony X one step farther. In describing this band I must mention more names than just Symphony X, because these guys also add in flavors of Circus Maximus, Tea Party, Yngwie Malmsteen, and even a touch of Opeth.
Myrath’s debut album is rightfully titled “Hope” which describes the current metal scene with bands like this one. The sound on this disc is as if Fredrik Nordström, himself, produced it. Everything can be well heard and the mix is absolutely stunning. My favorite song on this disc must be “Seven Sins” with a brilliant guitar solo that focused more on emotion rather than speed with some finely arranged keys behind it. Of course this is stuck between some fine progressive metal riffs and seamless transitions. The whole album is similar to this track, in that they move in and out of passages with ease and comfort. A rare occurrence for an up and coming band. For all the reasons listed already plus the fact I’m still in awe of this group, I’m giving them the same number as Symphony X received. As they will probably always be compared and always hold their own against the metal legends.
