RATING: 7.5 / 10

I’ve been known to be quite harsh on female fronted bands due to their complete lack of originality. With that being said, I am a fan of bands such as Chastain. Nail, in many respects, reminds me of the new era of Chastain. A definite vocal reference to Kate French can be heard on Nail’s self-titled disc. Not so much in grit at times yet rather in vocal runs and overall delivery. That’s not to say C doesn’t have her own vocal style as she is more clean in style, but in your face nonetheless. Another comparison to Chastain is the semi-progressive style in the music and even slight industrial influences.

The CD is loaded with monster vocals and harmonies. It should also be said that Rhino (The bands bassist and guitarist) also shares some vocals on the disc, giving the band a larger variety of sounds. Overall production sounds stellar (It’s listed that pro-tools were used) and the digipack case looks professional. Songs like “No Way Out” and “Reaper” stick out and leave an impression. The disc’s best track is arguably at the end with “F.O.A.D.” Indeed this is the type of song that fits well at the end of a long and stressful day. What does the acronym stand for? Well you’ll just have to buy it to find out!
