Walking in the same path as Circus Maximus and Pagan’s Mind, Promethic is a power metal band from Norway. The band has just released their first EP entitled “Rise From the Ashes,” as I have landed one of the first copies. The EP consists of five tracks, each reminiscent of the traditional European power metal theme. However, the band also adds some American metal influences of today as well (including bands like Avenged Sevenfold). The vocals are also torn between the Euro and American styles with catchy choruses and the new-aged growls.
However, don’t let that deter you, as this is in your face power metal. The melodies, both on guitar and vocals, in the title track are what makes this band what they are. A contrast of heaviness, mixed with progressive passages, makes this band a clear standout. Among the best of the slower material is the beginning of “Blind Eyes Open” with the appearance of some flute playing by Thor (all Jethro Tull fans unite!). With more material ready to go, this band gets a 5 the highest rating for an EP.
